If you have a website, you should know about the whois database, right?

The whois database shows all my information there. My name, address, and phone# are all there. Is there any way to hide it?

hey spoofee, how did you hide your info?

Yup... I have two domains and I have the option to pay extra to have the reg info hidden.

My question is.... how to hide my info there??

by the way kage_... what hosting company you're using?

I had to go to my domain name company to get it done. Webhoster couldn't help me.

For Dotster, I just logged in and they had an option to change contact info. If your webhost took care of the domain name registering, just give them a call.

so which webhoster is good?

i'm thinking about godaddy.

I use Hand in Hand Computing, but I just checked and they are not accepting new applications for service. The message say's to check back in a few weeks.

HIH doesn't register domains they only host em. I use www.your-internet-name.com for my domain registration and they do offer private regs.

If you search the net you can find alot of sites that do Private domain registration.
Just search for:Private domain registration

Well scrach handinhand. :( I just found out they are not renewing hosting and are shutting down. Darn, it was one of the best deals for the bandwidth and storge that I had found.

Yes you can... my registrar and my host are seperate. You point the name server of the domain to the host you are using.

wow, thats cool.

so if i register my domain at godaddy, and make it private, then find a hosting. will my info still viewable at whois.net?

What you hiding? If you buy privacy, it won't show up. But Im sure there are some sites that can make it visible, or part of it anyway.

I get my names there but host on another site. I use the free URL forwarding tool to point to a directory. Then I use masking so they can't tell the way its hosted.

Yep Ahnold, I registered my domain at godaddy and I did the private registration. Then I went over to Dreamhost and got hosting there. Works like a charm, good service and no downtimes. Only complaint is the bloated, yet useless (and sometimes slow) web-based panel they use instead of c-panel. Ugh.

If you do privite reg your info will show up as a godaddy phone number and address with a note it's private. When it's private it keeps someone from doing a normal whois lookup to get the info, but if someone knows the procedure they can get your info
