I got a sunburn a few days ago so when I went back to the beach today I put on sunblock. It was some generic CVS SPF15, I noticed later in the day that I had these strange bubbles in some spots on my skin, small ones and there were a bunch of them where they were located, I rubbed and scratched and they seemed to break away and form flaky skin, like normal peeling after a burn.

But it was weird. It didn't really look like skin, more like plastic wrap -- and it could be pulled away in large continuous sheets, whereas peeling skin usually flakes away in small pieces.

I got home and took a shower and used an exfoliating scrub and a shower pouf to really scrape away at my skin. If it was peeling i would have been a peeling mess when I got out, but I wasn't. Instead, I can still see the places where I've pulled away this film, and where I haven't, the film is still there. Once I dried off, it was easy to peel away at again, but places I have already peeled there is absolutely no peeling at all.

It's like the sunblock bonded what would be my peeling skin and now its like a vinyl wrap of my body. It's actually semi uncomfortable, and I don't know what the best way to get it off would be :(

Anyone ever heard of this?

Actually, we bought a children's sunblock from CVS last year and the one time we used it before throwing it out, it formed like a tanned scar on my middle daughter's and son's cheeks where we applied it, they kept a tan like patch on their cheeks for a good six months before it finally wore away.

depending on how bad your sunburn was, it could just be peeling skin. i come from a long line of brit/welsh/scot blood, and my fair-skinned family has burned and peeled many times. the skin comes off in large pieces and peels really gross but in a kind of cool way.

could be the sunscreen, but it might just be the burn.

When I was a kid (and dinosaurs roamed the land) We went to a redneck water park )A guy built a water park around an artesian well fed lake). Anyway, a couple of days later we all started peeling in sheets. I had pieces of skin a foot across coming off my body. Of course, my brother and I thought it was great fun! Mom was in a panic, of course.

Apparently someone went to a Dr., who called the health department, who did a chemical analysis of the lake and shut the place down. We never did find out what was in the water, but they should have let him reopen as a health spa. You've never seen a exfoliation treatment like that!

That's a story worth repeating Dan.

jl514, why don't you call the company?

Because I really don't know what to think. My best friend is down as well and he used the same sunblock and doesn't have these film sheets.

It doesn't itch or burn or anything. In fact it really seems to get uncomfortable AFTER i peel it off. But even after a night of drinking, a 10 minute bout of all out wrestling and a night's sleep I have the same pattern of peeled and unpeeled skin.

My main concern is looking normal to get back to the beach, it's spring break!

I'm thinking it is a bad sunburn. Sunburns that go deep would normally leave you peeling more than light sunburns. Don't try intentionally peeling off your skin - it could delay the healing process. Try using J&J's baby oil with Vitamin E & Aloe. That stuff works for me.

You should see a professional. Try a dermatologist!
