Hehe, I use a PS3 to do that this device does. Copy some movies onto my external drive or share it and watch it from the PS3.

Then you can watch the movie and do researches on your IMDB while you watch it :)

Bought on of these about 6 months ago and have never looked back . For those of us who do not want a gaming machine . ( not that there's anything wrong with that !!! ) this is a great solution !!! It plays any format I throw at it and is super easy to use . Will play either NTSC or PAL format easily . I highly recommend it . It cost me 20 $ more but I dont regret it !!!

This is worth every dollar. Super easy. Full 1080p and pure HDMI.

I will third these sentiments. This thing is great!! So much better than the vastly more expensive popcorn hour.

Thanks for this post and your comments.
I'm convinced that I'll buy one...whenever I upgrade my HDTV to one that has HDMI.
Until then, is there anything like this (HD) with component video hookups and a decent price ?

As above, these things are great. I have two USB powered external hdds connected to mine, can pull up plenty of movies & music easily, and transfer more media easily from my PC to the drives. For $80 you can't go wrong.
Lot's of info on them in various forums such as AVS.
