O.K, tired of being fat! I exercise almost everyday, eating pretty well balanced meal, but still the weight don't want to come off. Would like to try diet pills. Any reccomendation? How long have you use this and how much weight did you lose? Please share your experience :) Thanks in advance :)

Sorry, but I have never lost weight with diet pills, not any that didn't come back anyway. Diet and exercise that's what works for me.

as you exercise and lose fat, you gain muscle, and muscle weighs more than fat, so it could be that you're losing fat although your weight isn't changing.

have you checked to see what your BMI is?

diet pills can be dangerous and i think sticking to the safer, old-fashioned way of sticking to a healthy diet and partaking in regular exercise is the way to go

good luck ningw

I agree...diet pills are dangerous and they give you a false sense of support that you really dont need. I seen where cutting back on just 1 soft drink a day equals a 15 lb loss over a years time....

BTW. Penpen:"more cowbell"- i loved that episode of SNL.... ;)

do you calorie count? if you dont, you are probably consuming too many calories.

Normal people only need 2000-2500 calories a day, if you are active, a little more. if you are a marathoner or are tall, more than 3000 calories. if you are surpassing these numbers, they are getting converted into fat on your body.

power bars are just another gimmick for a candy bar, look at who makes it, alot of people fall for that. i would avoid as much carbohydrates (carbs) as possible, and if possible, avoid it all. potato is the worst carb on earth, especially fried chips of any sort and is equivalent to munching on a big mac as a snack. whole grain fried chips is another gimmick. "frying", in other words, is spreading a layer of fat onto something you eat.

often people say they eat a healthy salad, but what they do is goop 200 calories of salad dressing on their salad and eat cheese, ham, bacon bits, nuts, eggs, and butter laden croutons with it, and at the end, its literally equivalent to eating two big macs (big mac is 560 calories, double quarter pounder with cheese is 730 calories, Hardy's Monster Thickburger is 1410 calories, one oreo is 50 calories). if you are going to say you eat salad, it should be leafy greens, tomatoes and oil and vinegar.

gatorade has alot of sugar (carbs) in it, avoid it, drink water, unless you are a serious marathoner that loses alot of electolytes and are burning alot of calories on a 4 hour run. water is zero calories. avoid any drink with added sugar, especially if you drink alot of juices. get your vitamin c from fruits, and drink water, not a juice concoction with water, sugar and "natural" flavoring. ("natural" is another gimmick, first listed ingredient is sugar, have you every made regular sugar Kool-Aid?)

avoid eating huge meals at night, what you dont burn after eating dinner before you go to bed, is converted straight into fat. for example, you intake a 1300 calorie meal, you sit around and watch tv and burn 300 calories before you go to bed, and burn 500 calories sleeping. well, you then have 500 calories left over which is converted into fat on your body, EVERY day. that means, you have to burn that fat the next day or you will be gaining weight. be like the europeans, make dinner your smallest meal. my wifes parents just eat cold cuts for dinner. they only cook something for dinner when i visit, just because i'm there. and there is a reason why your grandparents walk around the neighborhood after eating dinner.

stairclimbing for 30 minutes burns only 200-300 calories. if you use these machines, dont cheat and make it easier by leaning on the handles, youre just wasting your time becaue you are just going through the motions and burning less calories. only touch the handles if you are off balance. biking on a machine is nearly useless. lifting weights doesnt burn many calories. nonstop aerobic exercise for MINIMUM of 20 minutes is the only productive exercise to lose weight.

alcohol (a carbohydrate) has one of the shortest metabolic pathways in getting converted into fat (next to eating fat). there is a reason there is the term "beer gut", and its true.

milk has ALOT of fat in it. get your calcium from leafy greens and supplement with calcium pills that have vitamin D, or get a little sun on a daily basis (you need either vitamin D supplement OR sunlight to absorb calcium). this is especially important if you are a young woman. the rule is, the calcium you store in your bones by your mid 30's is the most dense bone you will every have, and bone density is ONLY downhill from there on, unless you are prescribed specific medication from your doctor. so, getting your bones as dense as possible when youre young is the best way to avoid osteoporosis in your later years.

over the counter diet pills can have added "natural herbs" that increase your metabolism (ie, increase your resting heart rate). these "herbs" tend to be unpurified amphetamine-like substances that are legal and not regulated, such as mah huang. and they also load the pill up with caffiene. on paper, they do work but you will experience that feeling like you had way too much caffiene. these substances can be dangerous to some people and may cause fatal heart arrhythmias especially if you already have a silent (unknown) arrhythmia.

dieting and eating healthy are two completely different things. you can eat totally organic, natural, healthy foods, but if you eat too many calories, the extra calories WILL be converted to fat on your body. conversely, you can eat unhealthy, by eating 3 big macs a day and still lose weight, on a daily basis.

eating healthy is a completely different topic involving knowing what types of fats are good and bad, regulating cholesterol, avoiding processed foods, increasing consumption of pesticide free organic foods, avoiding foods that contain long names of preservatives, and increasing consumption of fiber from unprocessed fruits and vegetables.

I always get a kick out of those diet pill commercials because they all say that the pill with exercise and eating right will make you lose the weight. If you exercise and eat properly you will lose the weight anyway. Just my opinion. Weight watchers is very good to help you lose weight.

Eabu is correct. Cut your carbs, drink water and take a walk! You'll also feel better about yourself once you start moving. And if you walk, not only do you burn calories, you'll start to tone your muscles too.;)

I agree with almost everything eabu said, except the following...You can't completely get rid of carbs from your diet. Well, you can short-term, but you won't sustain yourself for LIFE eating meat and vegetables only.

Lifting weights burns A LOT MORE calories that you think, because muscle tissue is by far more metabolically active and superior to fat tissue. As a result you end up burning fat much faster with time. Sure, the scale may stop moving, but that's because muscle weighs more than fat, so you'll notice your physique will chnage for the better even if the scale does not.

Also, try to avoid more than 1 per day of new drinks flavored with "Splenda". There's some suggestion in recent research that it actually makes you gain weight after prolonged use. :hmm:

i don't think splenda will make you gain weight- too many calories and not enough exercise will. overall health is another story...

i agree, gr8nrg, that to enjoy life, you ought to enjoy treats, like cheesecake, fudge, and *gasp* regular soda. it's all about balance, everyday choices, and accepting who you are. when i start noticing my pants are too tight, i don't go buy new ones- i cut back on sweets. distance runners are notorious for overeating- because we think we can.

my brother makes fun of me for having diet coke with my dessert- but it's about choices. i'd rather splurge and have the calories in a slice of cheesecake (about 400), than in 24 ounces of pepsi (about 300). if i'm going to eat healthy, i do it at home when i don't care so much about what i eat- then when i go to a restaurant, i can splurge and have something that tastes incredible!

eabu is pretty right on, but i disagree about energy bars and carbohydrates. depending on your activity level, you may need the simple carbs that gatorade/powerbar/sugary snacks provide. however, the average person doesn't-- a two mile jog burns about 150 calories for an average person (150 pounds), and 24 oz. of gatorade would completely negate that.

you're right clubby....no wonder you're Spoofee's favorite

but as far as Splenda goes (read: not NutraSweet), there are some preliminary suggestions that if you overdo it, it will work against your weight goals. I don't drink more than 1 splenda-flavored drink per day. I try to drink water evethough I don't like the taste of pure water that much.

i agree, building muscle will increase your resting basal metabolic rate, ie, your muscles burn more calories while you are doing nothing. but what i see is that overweight people say they work out but when you observe them, they lift some weights, rest for a while, and then lift some more weights, and rest even more, and they go home and they say they are not getting results from working out. most people who are overweight will not build enough muscle to make a difference in increasing BMR to have satisfying weight reduction results. the only thing to recommend is some sweat. with immediate results and compliments from unsolicited people, it builds on itself and the person starts to actively work out more.

LOL. I think you mean having some knowledge. Having little knowledge is what gets people in trouble in the first place! ;)

i think people normally have no knowledge at all, so having a little is all thats needed

Oh, come on! Surely you don't think that most Americans are ignorant! Well, most of the world does, but that's another topic.

i think the people you see on jay leno's jaywalking are pretty easy to find anywhere, and these are the same people that vote, are on juries, and breed
