What do you do when you get poor service?

So what do you do when you go to a store or restaurant and get poor service? I'll define poor service as something fixable like misinformation, or slow service. Bad service, like rudeness, I think is different (deliberate) and can only be fixed by firing the employee!
So, anyways, do you complain? Or do you just accept it as a fact of life?

:) complain to the point where they look at you like a nut :) So far I've gotten $10 from pathmark and $100 from Home Depot! :) (among other 'discounts' and upgrades)

definitely talk to the manager, although i'd wait until after the meal, if you intend on eating there- you don't want anyone spitting in your food!

i once wrote a note to the waitress on the back of the bill, pointing out that as a mother, i go to eat with my family so that i can relax and enjoy my meal. if i have to flag her down for drinks, napkins, etc., then i'm not relaxing. also, we ordered 4 kids meals (sam still doesn't eat enough to warrant buying him a meal- he's barely 2), and she brought only 4 desserts for the kids. i've never had a waiter at the elephant bar do that before- they always bring enough for all the kids. and if she'd expected me to pay for it, she could have at least offered the option- instead i got to deal with a crying baby and asking one of the other kids to please share in exchange for something at home.

anyway, it's important to let the waiter/waitress know why you're leaving a bad tip, if you are, and it's good to let management know because their goal is to have you come back again and again.

Very smart Clubby. I never thought about that. Management needs the receipt and it will certainly catch attention! :claps: :claps:

I also like the idea that you repeatedly feed your kids in bars

Complain without question. At a couple different restaurants, I've had managers 1) give me totally free meals for 4 plus free appetizer next time; 2) $25 off the bill plus a free appetizer and dessert with my next meal with no wait guaranteed; 3) free desserts and free dessert and appetizer next visit etc.

FYI I don't complain just to complain or to get free stuff (HONEST!), but if you ask for the manager nicely and point out the problems in a "non-preco" ;) manner (e.g., 50 minute wait with a Charzilla when I was told a 10 minute wait; server literally disappeared and I had to leave my table to get up to get my own soda refill at the bar etc.), they usually see that you have a valid point and do something for you.

I also like putting "poor service" or similar next to the tip amount on the bill. Once at work, I even left a waitress a nickel tip. My staff was shocked since the bill was over $100. Pre-daddy days, I remember one time ordering drinks at the table and then just leaving.

As clubby said, if the complaint is about your server or the food, I wait until the entrees are served to complain, unless the place has REALLY good desserts. ;) If its regarding wait time or something like that, I'd call the manager over as soon as you get seated.

That wasn't very nice, grandma.

oh, give the old broad a break... she's senile and says all sorts of stuff... ;)

Naaa i dont mind that bad , im sure My "formula" contained vodka at some point :)

I always get the persons name when I'm getting information over the phone.
My son bought a computer game that he thought was compatible with our computer but wasn't. I didn't think he could return it but I decided to call and ask. I explained the situation to the girl at Fred Meyer where he bought it. She said sure bring it back. When I got there of course I get different information from Customer Service. I said " Well so and so told me I could and I wouldnt have made a special trip down here if she had told me differently". They had to go get the manager. She didn't want to return it either but I just kept making direct eye contact and repeating myself til they wanted to get rid of me.

its depends on what kind of poor service it is. but most of the time, i just accept it :(

i used to work at a resturant and a gift shop, so i know how it feels like.. people do make mistakes.

I guess it all depends on where and how bad the service you receive is...

Most of the time, I just never shop/eat/ patronize any place that has given me substandard service in the past. Our local pizzaria went out of business that way :D.

My husband only calls a manager over if he has to send the same meal back more than once. Once, he ordered a hamburger at Chili's without mustard and onions. The first time it came with mustard. The second time it came with onions. By that time, we had a cranky infant and I had eaten most of my meal. So he called over the manager. He got his meal comped and got $10 gift dollars (not gift card) to come back again.

Oh no! I would never ever send my food back in fear of geting a juicy spit in it (best case scenario :zip: ). I would put up with bad service until the tipping time.

Preco, I think it is time to have the nurses come in and empty your bed pan? You seem a little tense.
