What happened to deals on desktop computers?

Yes yes I know laptops are more practical for a lot of people, which would make me think desktop deals would be abound. But I have been checking all the major deal sites and haven't found anything good in the 200-500 range for just a desktop. Are these deals still happening, but not being posted?

the price of laptops has dropped so significantly, and the performance of laptops has risen so dramaticaly people have little reason to buy a desktop anymore. especialy when you can just get a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and a docking station. im sure there are great deals on desktops around. if you are a little tech savvy, you could build one for close to 300 dollars.
