If a person is of Polish decent, as I am (partially), I suppose I should refer to myself as a Polish-American. Yet I just call myself American.
I'm way more proud of being an American than I am of being of Polish descent.
So why do we call persons of African decent African-American? Aren't they simply Americans? If my decedents were South African or Moroccan or Egyptian I don't think I would refer to myself as
African-American either.

I think I can spin this into a conspiracy.
