for my parents, or uncles that I have, ....for instance, my dad's birthday is this thursday, but we're celebrating it on the weekend, so I have some time, but he's like in his mid or late 50's and I don't know what's appropraite to buy.... a electric shaver? I don't know........ what are some good options based on some deals that are going on right now and not overly pricey like nothing past $120, because I'm short on cash.hhee...and I need to save up for christmas...

Music is always a good choice or DVDs - or a warm sweater. Gift Certificates are my personal favorite. Tickets to a concert or play? Focus on what he likes to do and let that guide you.

my dad used to play the guitar when we were growing up, so for his bday, mom had his guitar re-strung and my brother and i bought him sheet music for songs he likes... bob dylan, peter, paul, and mary, etc...
one year my brother bought two copies of a book he thought dad would like, and he gave one to dad and kept one for himself so they could read it at the same time and then when they saw each other, they could discuss it.
a themed gift is cool, too... for example, a fleece blanket ($15 or so), some good hot chocolate and a couple mugs ($20), and a DVD... something for a cold saturday morning.
memorabilia from his favorite movie/play/musician/football team is always a safe bet too. good luck and let us know what you wind up doing!!

How about year's worth of NetFlix if they rent DVDs a lot? If they do sports, some lessons (or a couple hours of pro/trainer 1 on 1 time) might be cool; there'll be ads for that kind of stuff in the backs of related magazines, e.g. tennis, and local country clubs probably offer similar. An hour of sports/therapeutic massage is another idea. If they drink, of course there's always booze, many a birthday's truest friend :). You could perhaps pair that with some omaha steaks or other gourmet something. There are MP3 players around now for under $50 and/or an e-music (or audio books) subscription (napster, etc.) or high quality headphones could go with that. good luck!

he's kinda lazy.......listens to jazz a lot, watches sports, but doesn't get physical with them, doesn't play instruments..hm.....they recently bought new furniture, so that doesn't help......i'm left with just buying clothes i guess, but I dont' know his sizes....hm....buy a watch? I don't know..hm...or a tool kit? I never really see good deals on those.

Does he eat???? How about a basket of certificates for fast food or pizza places? Something that can come in handy anytime.

i was always told that gift cards/certs are very impersonal... I always get slapped for giving those.

How about a really nice wallet? Sounds lame but this is a tough one.

Gift cards are always good, like a visa giftcard, he could use anywhere visa is accepted

does it have to be something physical? why don't you guys go fishing or something.. take him somewhere.. to bond.. golfing?<3

So whadja get? We're all so invested now. Do tell, especially if it involved a naked lady jumping out of a cake.
