I know it's only September but I was just thinking and plotting Christmas.....last year it was insane. Had we planned better on what to get the kids, we could've walked into a store and bought a Wii off the shelf....but no, we waited , it was countless hours trying to track one down, chase it around town and then finally camp out all night (not me, Hubby did, he-he :p ) to get one.......

So what is the 'thing' to get this year? I'm not going through all that again....

I was thinking to get Wii fit (they don't have that yet)

Also my son's birthday is 12/29 so we need a few items/options....

I dont know what is hot, but I have been Christmas shopping for weeks now. This year will be too hectic to wait.

Thankfully, the boys are young and Kadin is thrilled with pretty much anything he gets. Although I have noticed lately that almost every commercial he says "I want that Mama"
The baby will be easy too, but fun since it will be his first and he will be 9 months old! He already is into grabbing things like magazines so I know presents will be a blast!

I've decided to hell with all this high-tech stuff (so he says in September). One of the things I'm getting my grandson this year is a pocket knife so he can learn how to whittle. Granddaughter gets real hands-on arts & crafts stuff.

What's going to be hot this year for Wii I think is guitar-hero type new instruments. You can put a whole rock band together. I heard a segment on the radio about it.

I saw the drum set for Wii on the front page and that's what has me thinking......should I do it now or can I wait?

I thought you said you learned from last year?

Do it now!

Hey, that's how I ended up with 4 kids......and we see how well that's working out....

Can't wait. You're not the only one who saw the front page.

BTW, front page of what?

You can just send me cash.

Thanks

I have been making a list since last december, of requests from each child when they see commercials, although with 7 kids aboard, I am thinking refrigerator boxes are looking better and better, you know they would be thrilled! And just like a normal toy, they will trash it in a couple of weeks and that will be that, boxes, that's the hot thing this year!!

Not that I have a clue as to "what is hot" but, some of my favorite places to buy toys for kids are as follows: The Discovery Store, National Wildlife Federation, the Smithsonian Institutes, National Geographic. They are all online. I also liked magazine subscriptions geared to the children, age appropriate of course, like Ranger Rick. What I use to do when my son was a wee lad was to go to Toys R Us and just meander up and down the aisles! If I had him with me, I took mental snap shots of what he picked up or showed any interest in whatsoever! That allowed me to gear his interests to his designs. No matter what is hot, or what is not, I think it is wonderful that you are thinking on things NOW as opposed to December 24th! Your children have their own specific ideas, but, try to give them at least one toy that challenges their imagination or level of productivity in the end! :) We were also a "game playing family" and remain so to this day. Maybe there are some new and exciting games out for this year? Anyway you slice it, it is never easy for us parents to keep up with all of these toy ideas, just do the best you can, and, the kids will appreciate the same! :)

Do any folks on here go to their local bank and participate in the "Christmas Club Programs?" I have been doing so for over thirty years, and, I tell you what, putting in ten or twenty dollars a week sure helps curb the sting out of Christmas shopping! With multiple children, perhaps folks here would like to entertain the same for next year? Of course, I have scaled back, not many to buy for anymore, but, it helps to know that "the money is in the bank" ready to go shopping come October! :)

What I have learned, in the brief 4 1/2 years of being a mom, is that grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. tend to spoil my kids with gifts around the holidays. I have been scaling back bigtime, as it just leads to over abundance of things in the home...which leads to me stubbing my toes more often. Seventy percent of the money spent at Christmas time goes straight into our children's 529 plans or savings accounts.

My 16 year old has rock band and now has the decision whether to get rock band 2 or guitar hero world tour (same concept as rock band).

I can honestly say that unlike many video games, this is one he never gets tired of. He actually packs up everything (including the drums) and carries it to friends houses for a "jam session". Even though he has beat all the songs once before, he still plays with it constantly. As a matter of fact, instead of halo night at the high school, they might have a rock band tournament. DS is already thinking of a winning band that is willing to practice every weekend. And after watching him play drums on hard or expert, I can say it is a workout. He is usually sweating by the time he finishes "Won't Get Fooled Again" or "Long Time".

BTW, I even enjoy it. The songs are not too difficult to sing on easy. I don't even attempt the guitar or drums. I am just not that coordinated enough.

I am not sure if the guitar hero components work with the rock band on the Wii. DS has a PS2 and he believes that he can use the drums with Guitar Hero World Tour. It would also be advised to buy another guitar. I know that World Tour and Rock Band come with just one guitar.

Hope this helps with your decision.

A deposit slip in the Christmas Stocking can be quite disappointing to a 10yo....KWIM?

I too have scaled back greatly....however, I still need to buy a present, so at this time....I buy fewer but better....;)

Not too difficult for you to sing, but extremely difficult for those around you to listen to!!!! :28:

Yeah, I have the advantage of having little kids...they don't grasp what they aren't getting.

Yeah, this is coming from the person that had more fun at the Wiggles concert than her 2 year old.:p
