Ok, this is just cathartic for me...any opinions are welcome. I live in what I thought was a nice peaceful neighborhood with nice peaceful neighbors. Next thing you know, my 84 year old neighbor comes up to me a few days ago asking me if I took pics of his wife watering the plants and called the authorities on her. She apparently was given a citation. I told him no and pointed him in the direction of a neighbor who he already has had a confrontation with. His response "Well, I didn't think you would have done that." Then, my friend, why on earth would you ask me??? Fast forward 2 days. Another neighbor calls and leaves a message on my machine about a portajohn that we have near our yard due to extensive construction on our home. It's been there for 4 weeks and will be there another week or so. No smell. Cleaned weekly. We even worked with the neighbors on its placement to make it best for all. One neighbor wants it moved all of a sudden since she has company coming to town this weekend for the holiday. Tonight, while my husband and I are out, the president of the homeowners association showed up on my doorstep. He spoke with my parents since we weren't home. He said that neighbors are concerned about the port-a-john...and apparently he has some sort of rolled up paper with him (have yet to find out what that was). Well, here's my situation. We have a toilet in the basement where they are working, but it is out of commission due to plumbing changes. I have kids who are 2 1/2 and 4 years old and (#1) I don't feel comfortable with the workers wandering in and out of our main living space to use the other toilet (#2) I have school/church activities as well as appointments for which I have to leave my home, and don't like the idea of letting them roam while I am not at home. So, I'll be going over to talk to the president tomorrow a.m. Seems everyone wants to launch an attack all of a sudden. What the !!!! Anyway, I feel better now that I have typed. Any support/criticism is welcome. Oh, and if you know how to speed up workers and make them show up on time, let me know, so I can get the port-a-john hauled away.

I would explain that you just need one more week...period. It has not been an issue for the last four weeks. Or you could completely agree, all wide-eyed and innoncent and then just explain that you just thought the porta-john would be so much better than the workers peeing in the backyard!!LOL

Then use the pressure you are getting from the neighbors to get the workers to wrap things up here! I know I try not to confront contracters "as myself" but if you were just speaking for those bi**hy neigbors, they might be less defensive (and sloth-like!!). Of course, I think throwing in the fact that you will not have a toilet for them to use could be inspiring.;)

Maybe you can speak to your contractor. There may be a law requiring them to have a port a potty. I did not want a port a potty in my yard when I was having an addition built to my home. But the contractor told me it was a law. they have to have one. So really, if that the case in your area as well, I don't think the home owners ass. (ha ha) can over rule it!

It should be up to the contractor to provide facilities for his workers and duke it out with the Home Owners Ass. If he asked up front for you to provide facilities and you agreed than you might be SOL. Check with the port-a-potty people too. They have to know what the rules are. And what's up with the neighbor? I suppose they think there sh*t doesn't smell?

What president are you seeing? I hope it's not Bush because he won't help. He probably doesn't think his sh*t smells either.

My vent/rant - 4 months ago electricity was 11 cents/KwH and this month it's 20 cents. That is a 90% increase and because it's the summer I have been using more. Most businesses, when you buy more, they give you a price break.
Thank you President Bush but I can't afford to vote for you, your friends or your party again.

I agree with Snib & Jer - you need to contact the contractor to let them handle it. And while it's still there when you see your neighbors, just smile and nod. :teeth:

Well, here's the update. There was a nasty email written by the neighbor (who I HAD considered to be friends of ours) to the board members of our neighborhood regarding removal of the john. The president and I had a chat just now. He is on our side. This 60+ year old gentleman just finished personally sliding the portajohn about 200 feet to the land that connects our property. Looked like backward skiing...wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Anyhow, problem resolved, unless the winds shift.

My wishes are for the wind to blow right toward the nasty neighbor.:mmph:

That's tame compared to some wishes I've been making today! LOL Where's my fairy godmother when I need her?? Oh, as a side note...There is a lot that is due to be built on in about 5 years that is right beside theirs. That'll be a good 6 months of portajohns for them. Can't wait! There won't be a darn thing they can do! heh heh heh - justice will be served.

You know what irks me about people sometimes.....if it was their home that was being worked on, they wouldnt see the problem with a portajohn. Like you, they wouldnt want the dirty, sweaty, smelly strangers doing the business in their bathroom.
We should always put ourselves in others shoes first before running our mouths!

I don't know what to say except I am glad I live in the country! sounds like you may have a long road ahead of you living with inconsiderate neighbors! Dosn't sound too much like a friendly neighborhood to me. :(

That's the weird thing about it. We've been here 4 years and this crazy stuff has only just started up. Just shows you never know sometimes! My mom quickly named her "a snake in the grass."

If you haven't seen it, rent the movie "Over the Hedge"
It's a kid's movie, but you'll love the Homeowner's Association Prez.
