With the holidays rapidly approaching (and me still not quite ready for this yet, lol) my son is bugging me for a Wii, but I don't know anyone who actually has one. Can anyone give me any tips? I know they're expensive, but overall is it really worth it? BTW, my son is 11 1/2.

TIA
Ash~

Yes it's worth the $250. and it's finally starting to become available. I would just go to a Bestbuy and ask when their next shipment is and go in the morning.

You, your wife and your son can box, play baseball, play tennis, play golf, play bowling fairly through a Wii :)

We have a Wii and it IS fun for the whole family. I really enjoyed the Rayman Raving Rabbids game and the Elebits too. Worth the money. You will have fun. :-)

dude.. I'm a girl :p  But the Hubby and my son will love it, lol

Cool! I really appreciate your input... I can't go and get one tomorrow (and he'll be really lucky if I can get one for Christmas, lol) but if I miss Christmas his b-day is in early Feb, so he'll wind up getting it either way, lol.

Wii is a lot more "user-interactive" (lots of arm swinging, twisting, turning etc) lots of body movements. and is great family fun.

If you don't have a lot of space in front of where the TV hook-up will be, it could be tough.

XBOX and Play station are good if you like shoot'em up - bang-bang games. (no dis to 'Guitar Hero')

The Wii is a party machine, good for if you have tons of friends over. But if you are just playing it with the same people, it becomes very boring IMO.

We got my son a Game Cube right before he turned 4. He's going to be 6 in Jan. and he finishes games made for 10 and up in less than a week sometimes. He beats me at games and I'm usually pretty good. Now he wants a Wii. Like I said, he's just going to be 6 and has only had his GameCube for almost 3 years. I can't afford a new game system every couple years, especially at his age.

ANYWAY....I told him they were really expensive and maybe he should ask for money for Christmas and his Birthday and then we could buy one. And he said, "WAIT! I have a better idea! We can just ask Santa for one! He doesn't have to pay for it!"

uhhhhh....yeah. that's a good idea. I'm scr***d!

'he's just going to be 6 and has only had his GameCube for almost 3 years. '

Let him get a job & pay for it himself. Kind of young to be working but if you're that bright there is sure to be something out there.

Ah but I'd have to drive him back and forth 'cuz he can't reach the van's pedals.

First off, buy it! The system is great! As for advice in getting one, go to a target or some other not fully electronic place. I bought mine in February where the rush was really crazy. It was a cold day and I went to the mall Sunday morning after I saw it in the add. While people were lining up outside best buy at 8 am and the store didnt open till 10, I walked in and out of a target across the street with my wii. You can also look on ebay which isnt that badly priced. Most systems are bundled with an extra controller and other things which you will most likely buy anyways. Good luck getting one, start looking now beforew the christmas rush starts.

Thanks! I want to get one someplace where I can get an extended warranty, just in case & I do want to get a bundle that has games, stuff we can all play together & stuff he can play on his own too :) Gotta save some $4 and then as soon as I can I will be off & running to get one :D

I saw a post that Target is going to have a lot of them, about 48 per store this week.

I found one at GameStop in the mall. It was the last one in my city!!! Now, I need to know more about it. My son has a DS & GameCube and wants to hook them up to Wii to play the games. Can we do this & what do I need to buy? Also, what else will he need - I got the console w/ a sports game, one controller, and a few other things. I see all kinds of stuff that you can buy but I'm not sure what is necessary and what isn't. Do I need any cables or do they come with the console?

My 7 year old daughter is asking for one for christmas. What all does the standard $250 package come with. (how many controllers, etc..) and what is the difference between a controller and a numchuck controller?

The basic box conatins the console, one wiimote, one nunhuck, the sensor bar, power supply, a/v cables, manual, etc, and the wii sports game which contains tennis, bowling, and a couple of others that I dont remember.. Maybe boxing?

The wiimote is the one with the sensor, its the one you will be using most. You will realistically need at least two of these. The nunchuck is the thing that plugs into the wiimote with the joystick on it. I havent ever needed to use that, but I only played like four games total.
