I've got Windows 2003 Standard and have configured my hosts file to get rid of ads, referrer links, and spam Web sites. (I downloaded the host file from http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm.)

Anyway, when I get to a Web page, such as MSNBC that use a lot of ads, I get a "The page cannot be found" error for those areas where the ads should be. Is there any way to set up my localhost so that any page not found errors can be a simple white blank page?

Nevermind. Found the Web pages in my C:\WINDOWS\help\iisHelp\common\ folder.

I changed all of the 404 error messages to the following code:
<HTML><HEAD><TITLE></TITLE>
</HEAD><BODY></BODY></HTML>

Ah, Web pages are so much 'quieter' now without all of the ad clutter. Hopefully this post will help someone else...

It probably took you longer to write your original thread than it took for you to figure it out. ;) :bigok:
