YMMV - Linksys 802.11G WRT54G Wireless Router for $17.99 After Pricematch/Rebate

Your Mileage May Vary. Some managers will not accept the pricematch since there are rebates involved. If the manager rejects the pricematch, try asking them to show you where on the pricematch policy it states that OR try saying that you don't want the rebate and want the pricematch instead. Good luck!

Pricegrabber Price : $58 ~ $93 Shipped

1. Radio Shack has the Router for $49.99 - $10 rebate. Pick up their ad or print one out from here.
2. Click here to see item on Circuit City.
3. Enter your zip code on the right side and choose a store to pickup your order.
4. Complete order online to pickup in-stores.
5. Go to your Circuit City with the Radio Shack ad.
6. Ask the employee for a pricematch to Radio Shack. Clearly state that Circuit City has it for $69.99 and that Radio Shack has it for $49.99.
7. Circuit City Rebate : -$20.00 ( Send copy of UPC )
8. Linksys Rebate : -$10.00 ( Send original UPC )
Total Price : $17.99 Picked Up

I also wanted to point out that on the price guarantee policy, it states

"If you've seen a lower advertised price from another local store with the same item in stock, we want to know about it. Bring it to our attention, and we'll gladly beat their price by 10% of the difference. If you see a lower advertised price (including our own sale prices) within 30 days of your purchase, we'll refund 110% of the difference.

Our policy applies only to advertised prices. It does not apply to special offers or promotions, including rebates, free-with-purchase offers and special financing. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide price matches online, so please visit the closest Circuit City store to take advantage of our Price Guarantee."

It seems that it is clearly stated that the pricematch doesn't apply to other "prices after rebate." Some managers will use this as that "since it includes rebates, pricematch will not be applied".

I use this router with no problems. There are various different people creating firmware upgrades based off the Linksys's GPL'd firmware. I had intended to try one, but just haven't had time, and the base firmware does the job for most things. The new firmwares do all kinds of things like letting you ssh into the router, bandwidth shaping, and basically all sorts of things linux would let you do. If you want to buy it for this reason, you might want to research them first, though.

Incredible deal Spoofee :D

The Circuit City nearest my house in Sunset Valley (SW Austin) gave me the pricematch without question. I just got a new laptop last Thursday (via the $750 off $1499 Dell deal) and this is exactly the router I was looking for.

Do you have any idea how much cash you've saved me in the last two weeks??? Kudos!!!

circuit city

All, I went over to my local Circuit City and they would not honor Radio Shacks price. I contacted Circuit City corporate and they never responded to my issue. Anyone purchased the router at a Circuit City in New Jersey?

Overall, pricematching is very much YMMV, or your mileage may vary, depending on your location and which manager is on duty at the time.

I've noticed that pricematching in the NYC Metro area is practically impossible, no matter what the store's formal pricematch policy may be. It appears that the BestBuy and CircuitCity locations here in Queens will not pricematch under most circumstances. One BestBuy manager explained to me that these stores dealt with a lot of abuse of the policy.

Here in NYC, there are a number of independent 'grey market' A/V stores (e.g., the type that are constantly under the scrutiny of the BBB and attorney general). Most of these stores advertise heavily in the local papers and advertise non-existent products at low prices to draw in customers (e.g., Sharp 42" LCD TV for $499.99!! Toshiba Centino Laptop $349.99!!). A lot of these independent A/V retailers are in business only to engage in bait & switch strategies.

You'd probably find it easier to ask these two retailers to match to each other or other big box retailers -- and then only on post-rebate prices.

Staples is the most amenable to pricematching, although this has also been inconsistent depending on which location I've chosen to visit.

Legally, I don't think these stores are obligated to sell you anything .. but that's for another post.
