Pros of the AirPods Pro 2
  • Great build quality (better than XM5)
  • Seamless integration in the apple ecosystem
  • Good Sound quality out of the box

Cons of the AirPods Pro 2
  • Poor customizability: The AirPods Pro 2 dont even offer an actual equalizer, only a few very limited and hidden options. Kind of disappointing for a product with Pro in its name. The lack of an equalizer isnt a big deal as the sound quality is already quite good out of the box, however I would personally like to slightly chop off some low frequency, as they sound slightly too mellow to me.
  • Silicone eartips: This may vary from person to person, but for me I never managed to get a good seal with any of the default silicon eartips, therefore hindering the noise cancellation capability. I bought some comply foam tips which for me worked way better than the factory silicone ones.

Pros of the WF-1000XM5
  • Great customizability: They offer more customizability than the AirPods Pro 2 through the Sony Headphones app, for instance by offering an actual equalizer.
  • Great sound quality: Out of the box the sound quality is about on part with the AirPods Pro 2, however when equalizing them you can really get the sound that suits you best out of them
  • Foam eartips: The foam eartips enable the XM5 to, in my opinion, have the best ANC of any earbuds on the marked as of Q1 2024.

Cons of the WF-1000XM5
  • Poor build quality: The XM5 just feel cheap to the touch. Also, the case hinge feels kind of wobbly. The AirPods Pro 2s case for instance feels noticeably more sturdy, and also contains a metal hinge and metal lanyard loop, which give it a more premium feel. I have experienced the same build quality as the XM5 from the Beats Fit pro, which cost just over half the price. Overall I think the build quality is unacceptable for an MSRP of 300$. This however seems to be a problem not only with the WF - 1000XM5 but also with other Sony flagship products such as the WH - 1000XM5. I dont own a pair of WH - 1000XM5 but I read through many comments and posts on this subreddit regarding problems with their build quality.
  • Buggy Integration: The app is buggy and feels clunky. For instance I never even managed to log into the app, therefore missing out on some features, because Sonys account management system is a dumpster fire. This seems to be a common issue especially when you create an account from outside the US.
